So That's Why?

So lately Abby's been quite naughty. I've been racking my brain on why she just won't follow direction. Am I not spending enough time with her? Is she just at that exploring age, 3 1/2? Does she just not need a nap? Is it because she is the third child?

Today I had her lay on the carpet by the front door for her nap. She snucked out and got some games and spread them all over the floor. It took a few spankings and taking away treats to motivate her to actually pick them up and bring them to the table, so I could put them away.

As we were sitting there putting the cards away I asked her why she is being so naughty "Don't you care that I am the mom and it is important to do what I ask of you?"

Her responce "Oh, I don't think about you."

It has dawned on me that I have been telling them what to do. I used to say I need you to do this and I want you to do that. I guess I have been a frustrated dictator lately. Well that is going to change. I am going to revert back to what has worked for me in the past, and that is Please and Thank-you's and expressing my feelings and needs.

  1. I have seen quite a difference in her at LoveBugs too, not sure what is up? She looked me straight in the eye and started throwing popcorn on the floor, one at a time. Wonder if she's testing boundaries?

  2. Did you make her clean it up? We've decided on no nap time and having her do crafts at the dining room table instead. Plus I am going to focus on reading to her more one on one. I think she is feeling left out. She was a huge help to me yesterday am with a project and today looked at me and said "I love you mom". So even though I know she needs a nap--we are going to skip them--for the betterment of her behind and my temperment.
